the care of trees
i love this. daryn and i were taking reg on one of our usual walks, but i'd never noticed this before. some of the trees have these little metal disks nailed into them that have a number, and then "the care of trees". i did a google search, and there's an organization dedicated to helping people and organizations ensure that the trees they plant will be around for hundreds of years. now, my thirty second glimpse of the "about us" page leads me to believe they're more into duping people into spending a lot of money to make sure their trees are healthy, but i guess the end result is good: more trees living longer is good for everyone, no? but really, i just love the tag. there's a sense that all we need to do to save trees is nail one of these suckers to each of them. let's get on it, people!

I love your comment about the Care for Trees program as just a way to dupe people into spending money on trees. Gave me a real giggle. Actually, that's the way I see a lot of the stuff people are urged to spend - like all the elaborate pet food, supplies and specialists. Since I know Reg is one of those highly pampered pets, maybe I shouldn't say it. But when I had Peggy she ate everything I ate and lived to a ripe old age. She was anything but pampered, and was healthy most of the time. Occasionally she would go out and eat something unmentionable (dogs roamed free in those days) and get a real stomach upset - which gave me plenty to do.
ReplyDeleteA supposed tree expert tried to get me to give all those trees in my yard some expensive injections to either cure or prevent some kind of fatal diseas. Some of my friends and neighbors have signed up for this program. I called the State arborist and got some expert advice which was that injections are not a good idea. Spending money on trees does not necessarily benefit them.
Well, that's enough rambling for today. Aren't you proud of your accomplished sister?
