16 years ago, my mother innocently followed me from a green slope onto a blue slope at a west virginia ski resort. this was a bad idea since my next step was to leave her stranded at the top of the slope after she realized she wouldn't be able to make it down. when i finished the run, and i told my dad where she was, he got to her as quickly as possible and had to coax her down the mountain. she vowed never to ski again. this was completely my fault.
today, after 16 years, my mother overcame her fear and allowed my dad to help her back on the slopes. she started on the bunny slopes, and completed the day by successfully going down a green. while my sense is that my mom was questioning her sanity the entire time she was skiing, i could tell she was really pleased with herself for getting back on the slopes.
i know that i couldn't be more proud! just look at that power stance!
