ski boots = uncomfortable

my dad taught me how to ski when i was very young, and i loved it. i apparently just headed straight down the mountain at full speed as soon as i jumped off the ski lift. when i was 15, my dad got a snowboard, and after he'd figured it out, he taught me how to board. i've been boarding ever since. recently, i've gotten the urge to hop back on skis to see how it goes. i stopped skiing just as they were coming out with the shaped skis, which i have never been on. i want to know if skiing is like riding a bike, and whether i'll be able to tell the difference between shaped skis and the ones i used to terrorize the slopes.

while my dad has a number of sets of skis that i can use, i had no boots until today when i went to the local sports authority with my parents to pick up some cheap-o boots. while these weren't the cheapest, they were the only ones that "fit". i say "fit" because the second i started to try the first one on, i was reminded of one of the absolute best reasons to switch from skiing to boarding: THE BOOTS!! i had faint memories of how uncomfortable ski boots were, but clearly i repressed them. because i was certainly not prepared for what these suckers felt like.
